On Wednesday, the school had quite a treat as the teachers from the Music Advisory Service came to school to give us a special concert. We even joined in with one track:
The school's first ever prizegiving ceremony took place at the Alderman Peel High School. Pupils from across the school were chosen to receive prizes donated by local businesses and individuals to reward hard work and dedication. Click here to see who received prizes.

Dan and Duncan from Norwich City's Football In The Community gave everyone a great football skills session this morning. There was lots of fun to be had, and don't forget they'll be visiting Wells for a three-day football workshop during the Summer Holidays.
You can request more information on their
website.

On Tuesday the 21st of July, Mrs Green and Mrs Jennings will be taking part in the Race For Life at Holkham Hall to raise money for Cancer Research UK. You can sponsor Mrs Green by clicking here, or click here to sponsor Mrs Jennings.

Well Done to all the children from High School Musical Club. Although everyone was very nervous they put on a great show for the parents and the rest of the school on Friday afternoon. I think that you will agree that they all looked great in their costumes, kindly made by my mum, Mrs Palmer.
I certainly think they did a great job, Mrs Whitaker - well done to everyone! It's very difficult to stand up and perform in front of the whole school, and you all did a great job. - Mr. S

France class put on their best clothes this morning to tell us all about the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Here you can see the important moment when the Queen received her crown, just before she was whisked away in a beautiful golden carriage.
8th July, 2009
In History France and Germany Classes have been finding out about the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. So, to bring all of our work together we celebrated in style with our own 'Coronation Ceremony', followed by a Fancy Hat Parade.
The afternon was rounded off with a traditional 'Street Party' (unfortunately with the damp weather this had to be moved indoors to the cafe). Red white and blue bunting helped to get us in the party mood and Spam Sandwiches went down a treat! It was great to see so many Mums, Dads, Nannies and Grandads come along to join in the fun!
8th July, 2009
At the Grand National Archery Society's annual tournaments for juniors, The Junior FITA Star and Metric Tournament and the Junior National Outdoor Championships, the first held on the 4th and the second on the 5th July, Ben from Year Six achieved 8th place in the Metric IV tournament. He also came 8th in his section of the National Outdoor Championships, the Bristol IV tournament. As one of the four highest scoring archers from Norfolk, Ben also represented his county in the team event. 23 counties took part and Norfolk finished in 7th place.
5th July, 2009
The school recently received a £500 donation from Morrisons in Fakenham as well as money from the Norfolk Partnership's Sustainable Development fund. The money was used to help set up the gardening club, and has proved to be very successful.
Simon Libovitz, the Morrisons Store manager, visited the school and the we were delighted to be able to show him the range of vegetables and salad grown this year.
26th June, 2009
Finally, after much hard graft on the part of parents, pupils and staff, the gardeners of the school harvested masses of pak choi and broad beans. Mr Fisher, disguised as a visiting celebrity chef, cooked up a sizzling stir fry for Italy class with the very local ingredients. Having enjoyed their pre-lunch feast, Italy class unexpectedly decided that eight out of ten children prefer pak choi and broad bean stir fry!
Look out for posters advertising our vegetable sale in the next week or so.
The school brochure has been updated.
26th June, 2009
Chris Rose from The Fairyland Trust sent us a collection of photographs and lots of information about the wild flowers to be found on our field. We've made a list of the flowers here, so that you can find them for yourselves at lunchtime or break. You can even download and print a special checklist to help you keep track of which ones you've seen.
Sweden Class had a good look on Friday afternoon, and managed to find almost every one apart from the mysterious valerian, and some well-hidden lavender. The hay rattle really rattled when we shook it, and we were surprised just how much eggs and bacon there was - it was all over the place! We're making some Wild Flower Guides using Textease which should help out any lunchtime flower hunters.

Did you enjoy our Sports Day? A lot of hard work organising led to a brilliant day for everyone, with all sorts of exciting sporting activities. As well as running, there was cricket and javelin, or discus and hockey. It was great fun, and the weather was so good to us!
24th June, 2009
Well done to these children, all of whom passed their On-Road Cycling course with flying colours.
23rd June, 2009
Italy class had great fun this afternoon putting together their miniature gardens. Thelma Fowle came in to talk to the children about how she makes the Easter garden for the church, and volunteers Maggie Palmer and Jean Whitaker came in to help. The finished gardens looked great!
There are new photographs to see in the gallery. First there are some photographs showing the fantastic activities from Art Week, and second on the list are a few memories of How Hill from May. Finally, there are some photos from the latest Wells-Gallions exchange visit, when our Year Five and Year Six pupils visited London for three days.
19th June, 2009
The younger children have been working hard painting some old desks for us to use outside. Thanks to Louise and Cat for their help - we all had a great time!
18th June, 2009
Mrs Owen's class had a visit from Amberlee, who works for the RSPB. She came in to show them some beautiful birds, and the children had a brilliant time painting many different kinds.
18th June, 2009
Local artist Hazel Ashley visited Year Six to talk about her artwork and give the children some expert tips to try out with some wonderful, high quality watercolour paints.
17th June, 2009
Italy class had a fantastic afternoon building models of sheds, swings, swingball and other types of garden furniture and games for their 3D gardens. Next Tuesday afternoon, with help from Thelma Fowle, they will add turf and other organic materials to complete their gardens.
Thank you Mr Beales, Mrs Whitaker and Mrs Green for all your help.
17th June, 2009
Have you seen our wonderful Aztec temple? We all did our part when making it, right from the measuring and joining, through to the painting and decorating. There are six tiers to our temple, so we split into six groups, and each group had to measure and make a cuboid that was 10cm smaller than the next group's. We covered them in papier-mache and then joined them together with glue and more papier-mache.
After that, we mixed together some poster paint with a little sand and did a grey undercoat, onto which we daubed a darker grey. Some children made the temple steps from art straws, and everyone made a statue from clay to guard the temple. They all have their own names and secret powers, which we wrote about in Literacy. There's a mysterious stone table at the top of the temple with a bowl-shaped depression in it. Be careful if you ask Sweden class what it's for... you might not like the answer!
17th June, 2009
Local artist Juliana Kidd visited Sweden class to show them some of her beautiful pieces of Beach Hut artwork. It was even more fun when the templates came out, and everyone started to plan and draw out their own beach hut design. Acrylic paints, next, and lots of finished beach huts ready to be mounted on a sand dune background.
15th June, 2009
Sweden class began art week by trying out tessellations and delving into the depths of Henri Rousseau's paintings 'The Dream' and 'Tiger In A Tropical Storm (Surprised!)'. We also tried out some new acrylic paints as we tested out Rousseau's style with some jungle paintings of our own.
There are so many wonderful activities planned for Art Week - keep checking the website to see what we're up to!
11th June, 2009
Sweden class did a great job on Thursday, telling everyone about the great time we had at How Hill. Thank you to all the parents who came to see our assembly - we hope you enjoyed it!
You can see pictures from our visit to How Hill in the gallery.
5th June, 2009
Well done to all the children who played in out Year 3 and 4 mixed football team. Wells just missed out on going through to the final. With loads of shots on goal they just wouldn't go in! They won the 3rd and 4th place play off match and came 3rd overall in the competition. Fantastic play by all players, and a great team spirit. Thank you to all the parents who came to support us.
4th June, 2009
The Nursery children had a great time this week when the Wells Firefighters came to visit. The children learn so much from these first hand experiences so a big thank you to them for coming to our school again.
3rd June, 2009
We are so lucky at our school to have such lovely grounds. The Nursery children enjoyed a morning exploring our wildlife trails and visiting our enchanted gardens.
We've just added Charlotte's sad but wonderful poem to the Poetry Cupboard. If you've written a poem, please send it to us - we'd love to include it. You could post it in the guestbook, or write it out and give it to your teacher.
1st June, 2009
Congratulations to Abbie and Joshua who, during half term, took part in the North Norfolk Triathlon held in Bircham Newton. They completed a 150m swim, 2 km bike ride and a 1.2 km run - phew!
22nd May, 2009
Years Three and Four had a fantastic time at How Hill, and returned completely worn out in time for the end of school on Friday. Don't miss our special How Hill assembly next Thursday.
21st May, 2009
We would like to thank the Wells coastguards and the local police for coming into Nursery to visit. The children loved putting on the sirens and pretending to drive the vehicles! Mrs Whitaker then had to play the police game during outside play all week being the robber as the children arrested her and took her to the cells!
20th May, 2009
During science week the Nursery children had another visit from the RSPB. We had a great morning learning about how the birds make nests for their eggs.
19th May, 2009
A pair of our school maracas made their public debut recently during a performance of dances from West Side Story with the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra. Several pairs were auditioned (including a yellow pair, also from our music trolley) but these orange ones were considered to have the best sound for the job!
18th May, 2009
Last year, the Poetry Competition winners were broadcast live on Norfolk Radio:
We've just added two new poems to the Poetry Cupboard.
18th May, 2009
Sweden class have been working hard designing and making shaker instruments as part of their Design and Technology work. We used junk materials and messy papier-mâché to form the shape of the instrument, then painted and varnished them for a professional look. We even wrote about the designing and making of our instruments.
15th May, 2009
Actually, there were no tangles at all in Friday's assembly when Italy class demonstrated their clever way of tying ropes up so that they're ready for next time. Apparently it's really simple and it's just like french knitting. Simple it might be, but it looked very, very clever!
9th May, 2009
Congratulations to all our poets who appeared on stage at the Maltings to read their prize-winning poetry, and special congratulations for Jaimie from Year 3, whose poem 'Cowgirls' was so good it was chosen to win the Helen Flanagan trophy! Seven of the poems in the It's Not Just A Game book were written by pupils of our school, and Abbie from Year 4 will be delighted to see her picture on the front cover, and it even received a special mention by Mrs Crossley-Holland during the introduction to the event. Well done everyone!
6th May, 2009
The Wells-next-the-sea Primary and Nursery School Football team played their final match of the season against Blenheim Park Primary School on Tuesday. Despite very windy conditions, the team raced to victory and won 7-0! This was an excellent end to the football season and means that Wells have come second in the league after only our first year in the competition. Well done, team! Also, many thanks to all of those parents who helped with transporting the children to various fixtures.

The judges for this year's competition had a very difficult but enjoyable task selecting the poems to be entered into the Poetry-next-the-sea Anthology. Congratulations to Jacob, Jaimie, Kester, James, Abbie, Willow and Stephen who had their poems chosen. They have been invited to attend a Poetry Reading at 9.30am at the Maltings in Wells on May 9th.

Well done!
These children's illustrations were chosen for the anthology: Terri, Ambaliy and Rebecca.
Congratulations to you all!

You have until the 11th of May to get your reading done and collect in all your sponsor money for this very good cause.
23rd April, 2009
Years One and Two were lucky enough to be able to attend a Dance Festival at Alderman Peel High School. The dance workshop was great fun and they met lots of children from other schools in our cluster. There was an Olympic theme, and the children learned to work as a team and make new friends. The children especially liked the dance to the music from 'Shaun The Sheep'!
22nd April, 2009
Italy Class were visited by a forensic scientist on Wednesday. The class helped test samples taken from four possible suspects in the poisoning of a chicken dish cooked and served at a wedding reception. Our budding forensic team carried out tests on soil samples, analysed ink from a letter found in the hotel kitchen, as well as the familiar checking of fingerprints.
Don't worry - the team succeeded in finding out who had carried out the poisoning and had a fantastic time honing their scientific skills. As for the suspect... well she's been firmly locked up in the role play cupboard until the next workshop!
Thank you, Mrs Jeary, for working with Italy class and giving them all (and Mrs Gates and Mr Fisher) an inspiring morning.
21st April, 2009
Our preparation meeting for Year 3 and 4's visit to How Hill is on Wednesday at five o'clock. All parents and children are encouraged to attend, as we'll be showing you some photographs from our previous visits, and giving out kit lists so you can be fully prepared. We'll answer any questions you might have, and tell you all about those important things like what you'll be doing, where you'll be sleeping, what you'll get to eat and how very safe and well looked after you will be. We'll also ask you to fill in a form with any important medical details.
If you wish to look at photographs from previous visits, you'll find pictures from 2005, 2006 and 2008 in the galleries section of our website. If you're a fan of Google Maps, you'll find How Hill here.
2nd April, 2009
Well done to our violin, clarinet and piano players - this morning's concert was a marvellous display of how well your skills are progressing.
14th March, 2009
Thank you to all the people who turned up on Saturday to help put everything together. The gardening club will get off to a great start with our new polytunnel and raised beds. Our garlic and broad beans, which we planted in early Spring, are also doing well, and so far the rabbits don't seem to be interested in nibbling them!
5th March, 2009
Years 4, 5 and 6 had a wonderful time in Norwich. Michael Rosen performed for us, and then we moved on to the Norwich Castle. An excellent day out!
11:00 March 3rd to 11:00 March 5th, 2009
Don't forget it's World Maths Day on the 4th of March. We'll be sharing out the ICT suite time and making sure everyone gets a chance to log on and take part. Your class teacher has your login and password.
World Maths day actually begins as soon as it is the 4th of March somewhere in the world, which means that World Maths Day for us actually begins at 11:00 on March the 3rd. In the same way, World Maths Day carries on as long as it is the 4th of March somewhere, so it actually lasts for forty-eight hours from then, ending for us at 11:00 on March the 5th.
28th February, 2009
The Nursery children and Miss Vincent's class had a visit from the RSPB. We had lots of fun taking part in different activities and learning all about different types of birds and how to look after them. We now have a nesting box and lots of bird feeders in our Nursery garden, and we are recording the birds that we see.
25th February, 2009
Calling all practical parents! On Saturday March 14th we will be putting up our brand new tunnel. If you are able to help with our exciting project, please speak to Mr Fisher.
25th February, 2009
We are all really enjoying High School Musical Club on a Monday lunchtime! Mrs Whitaker gets so carried away with the dance moves that we are usually late into dinner! Sorry Mrs Frary!
When we have perfected our routines we are hoping to put on a little show for parents and the rest of the school.
24th February, 2009
A big thank you to Lilian and the kitchen staff who kindly invited the Nursery children to the school canteen for a pancake eating session. They were really yummy!
23rd February, 2009
In the Nursery we tried foods from different countries during international awareness week. We all really enjoyed the noodles from China! One child told us all that he had been to China, but we later found out that he had just been to the Chinese take away shop!
23rd February, 2009
France Class have really been getting into the International Week activities. We have been finding out lots about France and trying to say some French phrases and words. We've even been thinking about France in our PE lessons! We listened to the French national anthem and then created a dance to it which included becoming really tall like the Eiffel Tower and then pretending that we were in the Tour de France! We had great fun.
23rd February, 2009
In Sweden class we managed to find a Swedish friend who didn't mind answering all our questions, mostly about food and the Swedish Queen!
We emailed Niklas, who lives in Luleå, on Monday. By Wednesday he had sent us replies to all our questions, and we used the emails to make our own Swedish information posters and a beautiful display of Swedish food.
The answer to our special Swedish question was on our Swedish food display: inlagd sill is delicious pickled herring, the perfect finishing touch for any smorgasbord.
13th February, 2009
International Open Afternoon finished our week of activities based around all the countries of the world, which you can see more of up above. Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters, grannies, uncles and more all rushed into school this afternoon to enjoy a range of exciting and interesting activities, and complete our fiendish International Quiz.
11th February, 2009
The Knit-Wits is a school club which meets every Tuesday from 12:00 to 12:30 under the guidance of Mrs Green and Mrs Gates. Both of us are experienced knitters, so if you are interested in learning to knit why not have a word with one of us, or just come along on a Tuesday. The Knit-Wits club isn't just fun because of the knitting - we not only learn to knit, but have a lovely natter as we knit away. If you check with your mum or gran, you'll find we're continuing a tradition that's gone on for many a year! Knitting isn't as hard as you might think, in fact it's as easy as pie once you know the secret, and there's lots of fun to be had as we sit round clicking away and gossiping!
Shannon thought of our rather original name, if you're wondering!
10th February, 2009
In the Nursery our country is England and we have been pretending to be good old English 'Bob the Builder!' We were really lucky to have Julian in the Nursery helping us make space rockets, cars and aeroplanes. We talked about travelling to different places and countries. Freddie has just come back from a holiday in America.
Later this week we are also going to be tasting food from different countries at snack time and talking about our holidays.
10th February, 2009
The orchestra club meets every Monday after school. We have a range of musicians, all of them working hard to learn to play their instruments and make beautiful music. You can see one or two other pictures in the Gallery section of the website.
9th February, 2009
It's International Week at Wells Primary. Find out about our link with the German school St Ida Grundschule or follow Barnaby's latest set of photographs from Cuba.
Take the challenge and see if you can match the clothes with the countries on our Clothes From Around The World Quiz, or zoom out on Google Maps to see the United Kingdom, Europe or the whole world!
Look a little further down the page for where Italy class have been communicating with children from the Arusha School in Tanzania about their water supplies, too. There are also some special Geography games here
There'll be lots to do during the week, and don't forget to tell mums and dads about our open afternoon on Friday...
10th February, 2009
As part of their topic about water, Italy class have been strengthening their link with the Arusha School in Tanzania. The Arusha school have just sent photographs of their children accessing water. In response we sent pictures back, showing how we access our water.....
There is a noticeable difference between how the two schools get their water! The water you can see being collected in Arusha is for domestic use only. They have to go further to collect drinking water, unlike Daniel from Year Four!
Our international link with Tanzania is getting more exciting the more we are able to tie it into our learning. Thank you Daniel, Josiah and the Arusha Alliance School, Tanzania.
9th February, 2009
France and Germany Classes had a very interesting day out at Norwich Castle. They were particularly excited about travelling on a double-decker bus! They found out lots of interesting facts about castle life during a tour of the Keep and visited the garderobes (toilets) which could seat four people at a time!
They met George, a teacher at the castle, who showed the children some interesting artefacts from the castle, some of which were 700 years old! This is Leanna modelling a fine helmet worn by a knight.
Billy, Tyler and Louie made an arch. It was tricky getting the keystone in the right place.
6th February, 2009
This is the first batch of our specially-designed biscuits. Years three, four and five have all been working hard in Design And Technology to design and bake the perfect biscuit. We're getting closer, although the Mars Planets that Jaimie chose to use seem to have exploded!
5th February, 2009
Unexpected snow! Laura helped me build a snowman before school to celebrate...
9th - 13th February, 2009
Next week, as part of an International Week in school, there will be a range of activities on offer across the curriculum from cooking, food tasting and singing, to learning about the climate and architecture in different countries around the world.
On Friday 13th February there will an open afternoon for parents to come along and take a tour of 'Europe' and visit the different classes with your child. There's a quiz to do as well. Parents, do come along and join in the fun from 1.30pm -3pm.
1st February, 2009
We all had such fun in the snow! We went outside to build a snowman together and brought some real snow into the classroom to play with. We talked about how the snow changed as it melted and made snowy pictures with cotton wool!
2nd February, 2009
We had great fun in assembly when Andy Croft visited to stir up a little excitement for the Poetry-next-the-Sea festival. Andy managed to get the whole school to enact an entire football match, and left everyone in a state of mad excitement.
Calmer moments took place in Italy class, where kennings were the order of the day.
Word-wrangler,
school-exciter,
poetry-inspirer,
snow-defier;
Andy Croft!
You can now see photographs of Barnaby's visit to Cuba on our International Links page.
29th January, 2009
Congratulations to Luke and Alex who won prizes for themselves and the school in the Tesco Christmas tree decorations competition.
27th January, 2009
Did you notice the huge list of school clubs on the back of the Curriculum Information sheet? There are so many now, and there has to be something for everyone!
Monday: Mrs Whitaker has recently started her High School Musical club, and is hoping more boys can be tempted along on Monday lunchtimes to practise their dance moves. Orchestra Club is after school, open to anyone who takes their guitar, clarinet, violin or keyboard lessons during the week.
Tuesday: Get those needles clicking at Mrs Green and Mrs Gates' knitting club. Wool donations are gratefully received. After school, £2.00 will allow you to take part in Sports Club with Mr Frary. Also, Mr Fisher is beginning a Gardening Club - it's only for Italy class at the moment, but watch this space if you're interested! Also, selected Year Six children are attending the Grand Slam club.
Wednesday: Mrs Vertigan invites Year 5 and 6 to her cookery club on Wednesday lunchtimes, while Mrs Whitaker recently started a club to swap and play with Match Attax cards. Every other week, the School Council meets for a special working lunch with Mrs Jennings.
Thursday: Mrs Jennings takes the Choir during lunchtimes, and after school Mr Speck and Mr Spittle dust off the chequered boards for Chess Club.
Friday: Table Tennis Club with Miss Vincent rounds off the week - phew. Currently, the club's places are all full, so if you're interested, keep an eye out for future announcements.
If you're interested in any of the clubs, listen out for announcements in assembly or approach the member of staff concerned. Some of the clubs are full at the moment, but others are open to new members. Don't forget there are also lessons available for a number of musical instruments in the school; these do cost money, and Mrs Jennings will announce when places are available in the newsletter.
15th January, 2009
What an exciting and inspirational visit from footballer Jeremy Goss! Not only did he find time to talk to us in assembly, but Key Stage 2 had an extra treat as he visited classrooms after break to answer questions and explain more about his life.
7th January, 2009
Congratulations to Sian and Rebecca on their violin examination success.
6th January, 2009
Welcome back to school - the Spring term starts on the 6th of January. You can download the latest newsletter here and can catch up on important dates on our Google calendar. If you're a Google calendar user, you can search for our public calendar from your GCal page and add it to your own.

There were heartfelt goodbyes for Mr Baldwin today, as staff and pupils showed their appreciation for our Year Six teacher. Mr Baldwin, the guestbook messages clearly show that you will be missed, and we wish you amazing success in your new school.
17th December, 2008

Today Italy Class celebrated the sunny weather by planting up the first vegetable bed with garlic and broad beans.
As you can see Mrs Gates had a very heavy parcel to post (containing over five thousand Let's Grow vouchers), so in March we can look forward to a gardening supply drop from Morrisons, which will help our green fingered children immensely.
Many thanks PFA, parents and Fairyland Trust for your fantastic support - have a relaxing midwinter break!
16th December, 2008
We had great fun at our Christmas party in the Nursery. We even had a visit from Father Christmas! Thank you Father Christmas for our presents!
16th December, 2008
Well done to all of Key Stage 2 for their marvellous performance in Baboushka. The singing and acting were absolutely top-notch, and made this year's production one to remember.
15th December, 2008
The senior citizens of Heritage House had a wonderful time as the choir and clarinet group from school visited them, bringing a little Christmas cheer.
13th December, 2008
Some of you have worked so hard over the past few weeks to put together your beautiful Christmas lanterns. This photograph shows just how lovely they looked. The weather may have been windy and wet, but that just made their light shine all the brighter. Well done!
13th December, 2008

The Choir and our clarinet group were excellent representatives of the school at Christmas Tide. The building was packed with visitors and parents, who all enjoyed themselves immensely as they listened to the choir's beautiful voices.
9th December, 2008
Congratulations have to go to everyone from Key Stage 1 for their performance in 'The Whoops-A-Daisy Angel'. You were magnificent!
6th December, 2008
Over the last weekend, The Grand National Archery Society held its 37th Junior National Indoor Championships at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall, Shropshire. In his category, Junior Gentleman under 12, recurve bow, Ben from Year 6 achieved 7th place with a score of 418. Excellent work, Ben!
4th December, 2008
Just before they went off to their Grade 1 Violin Examination, Sian and Rebecca treated us to a short but beautiful concert of their violin work. Shane and Miss Coleman helped them out. Well done, girls - you sounded wonderful; it's nice to look back on how you've improved over the years.
27th November, 2008
Well done Italy Class! What a fantastic assembly. Great acting and fabulous props - you've certainly engaged with the lives of Victorian children.
I'm certainly glad that I teach in the 21st century as opposed to the 19th! Will Tom become an OFSTED inspector..? We'll just have to wait and see!
24th November, 2008
In preparation for the Community Christmas tree as part of this year's Wells Christmas Tide, all the children in the school were invited to make a christmas decoration. All the children had a wonderful time colouring, painting and sticking on lashings of glitter. We hope you'll visit the Community Christmas tree and try to spot your decoration. When it's all over, your decoration will be returned to you so that you can take it home to hang on your own tree.
24th November, 2008
Joshua from Year 3 represented Kings Lynn Gymnastics Club last weekend in the gymnastics championships. He won 2 bronze medals for tumbling and floor routines. Very well done, Joshua!
17th November, 2008
Yes, it's anti-bullying week at Wells Primary School. Ask almost anyone, a grown-up or a child, and they'll be able to tell you about a time they were bullied, or saw someone being a bully, and how much they needed someone to help. Here at Wells Primary School, we want to stamp out bullying completely: See it, get help, stop it!

Thank you all for saving the Morrison Let's Grow tokens. We have collected a staggering 3,831 tokens to date.
Mr Fisher will be setting up a Gardening Club for Key Stage 2, in the Spring term and we will be making some choices shortly as to the best way to use the tokens. All that remains now is for you to remind Mums, Dads, Grannies, Granddads, Aunties and Uncles, Great Aunt Flo and the neighbours that we need to have the tokens in by the end of November.
Once again thank you for your amazing effort at collecting tokens to benefit our school.

Year Four had a great time visiting the town library on Friday morning. They had a guided tour of all the secret parts of the library that you don't normally get to see, explored some of the items available to borrow, and enjoyed story time with Linda. They voted for their favourite book, too. All too soon it was time to return home, the walk made just a little more exciting than usual by the unexpected llama in the Marsh Lane field.

France and Germany Classes visited the building site of the new Police Community Drop-In Centre on Polka Road. On arrival, they all had to put on hard hats and reflector jackets. Then they had a guided tour of the building with Mr Simmonds, from Mansell's building company. They saw how the building was wired and inspected the drains for the toilet and shower (fortunately none of these were in use yet!) The children had a great time. (They wondered what had happened to Bob The Builder? Maybe he was having a day off!)

We are doing so well with our Morrison's Let It Grow vouchers - I've counted 1750 so far. The last date for collecting them is the 6th of November, which gives us just over two weeks to make a final push. Please, if you normally shop at Morrisons, remember to ask for your vouchers, and don't be afraid to politely ask the person in front to give you theirs if they don't have a school to collect for.

Italy Class have just returned from the Enchanted Garden. The only
evidence of their visit are their wonderful mandalas.
Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle and the class have shown using
found materials all aspects of the lifecycle of a plant.
Can you see how they have illustrated germination, pollination and dispersal?

The beautiful mural completed by Year 5 last year with help from Marilyn Jefferies has been put into position on the outside of the Reception classroom. You can see it as soon as you come round the corner and in through the gate, and it's really effective.

The weather was much better today, and our Mini Olympics was great fun! In the morning the field was still a little bit damp, but Key Stage 1 had a great time on the playground. They practised lots of different sporty skills, and really put in the effort.
After lunch, the October sun had helped to dry out the wet grass, and Key Stage 2 were able to spread out on the field. They enjoyed a variety of games and races, and their scores were added to the Key Stage 1 results.
So who won? Well done Yellow team and Red team - you were the joint winners!

The Year 6's undertook their annual 'challenge' last week in the pouring
rain! The rain started at 8.30am - just as the children began their walk
and stopped at 1.00pm - just as the children arrived back at school.
The children were magnificent. There was hardly any moaning, and the children walked at a tremendous pace - setting a new record for the walk. Mrs Jennings was helped at the front by her two assistants, Jade Tipper and Charlotte Angus; and Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Vertigan were helped at the back by lots of different children at different times throughout the walk.
When the children got back to school they had to change out of their soaking wet clothes and into their PE kits - but were then treated to a quiet and 'dry' hour watching a DVD.
To their credit, the following day NOBODY was away from school! The Year 6's are now trying to decide on an appropriate challenge for next year's class!

You might have noticed the Let's Grow banner outside our school gates, and have wondered what on earth it was all about.
Well, we're collecting the Morrisons' Let's Grow vouchers so that we can start a gardening club. It'll be great fun, and if we get enough vouchers we can really get off to a great start with some free gardening equipment.
If your family normally shops at Morrisons, then don't forget: when you get to the checkout and the operator says 'Are you collecting vouchers?' the answer is 'Yes, please!'. (Mr Speck informs me that if you say 'Yes, please, and could I have some extra because my school is really keen to start a gardening club?', sometimes the cashier smiles nicely and adds an extra one to the bundle... but only sometimes!)

The weather was not good to us on Wednesday, so we've had to postpone our Mini Olympics sports event until next week. Let's hope the sun shines!

On Tuesday, the children in France Class enjoyed a Teddy Bear's picnic. For our Design and Technology work this half term, the Year One children designed and made a healthy fruit salad and the Reception children designed and made a sandwich for their teddy. After all of this hard work, the children sat down and enjoyed their food with their teddy bears. Unfortunately, it was raining so we couldn't go outside, but the children had great fun anyway. The teddy bears seemed to enjoy their trip to school too!

Have you added a book to our Big Book Bank yet? Lots of children have brought in a well-loved book to share or even donate to our school library, and they've taken home a pencil, a pen and a voucher to swap at Waterstones for a special Big Book Bank book. There's a fantastic Mr Gum book, the classic Tom's Midnight Garden, a Michael Morpurgo book 'Dear Olly' and one of Chris Ryan's gripping action adventures, to mention only four!
If you want to take part in the Big Book Bank, but can't quite remember how it all works, why not visit the Big Book Bank website for a refresher course.

Germany Class have just begun setting up a link with a primary school in a place called Herzfeld - the St Ida Grundschule. You can find out more in our International Links section.

Many thanks to all the children who have brought interesting finds for Italy class' nature table. It's not just people from our class who've brought things along, and the table is beginning to look very full. If you haven't had a chance, try to find time to come along and see!

Key Stage 2 had a great time learning all about our school library this week. They found out about the different coloured categories in the library, practised finding information on different topics and even had a chance to do a little research. Mr Gregory from the Library Service was very helpful, and made our learning great fun!
16th September, 2008
We had an important visitor in assembly who told us about how important it is to be safe on a building site. We found out why they're not good places to play, and some people were able to try on some of the safety equipment a real builder would wear.
The builders are currently working on the new Drop-In Centre on Polka Road, not too far from the school. Perhaps you can see the building work as you go home from school, but remember the important message - it's a dangerous place, and won't make a good play ground at all.
8th September, 2008
Chess Club will be taking place on Thursday from 3:15 to 4:00 in Mr Speck's room. Everyone is welcome, but you must get permission from your parents.

We hope you've had a wonderful summer holiday and are ready to return to school! There's lots of work to be done but lots of fun to be had at the same time. Welcome back - don't forget your PE kit!
